Michelle Konkoly set the S9 50 freestyle world record on Friday night at the 2016 Paralympic Trials. In that swim she posted a 28.24 in finals, which was faster than the old mark set by Sarai Gascon of Spain.
Saturday night the 24 year old set the American and PanAmerican records in the S9 100 freestyle with a 1:01.25.
Konkoly has spent the past year training full time after deferring medical school. She spoke with Swimming World after the session about how she was overjoyed to have experienced her first time drops in over a year. In both prelims and finals of both swims this weekend she got faster. The Georgetown University alum shared how she has had to readjust her goals as the world records have been dropped by other swimmers.
