Instead of swimming the 400 IM in Omaha this year, Michael Phelps watched from the stands and spoke to the media afterwards.
Phelps noted how proud he is of Chase Kalisz, saying he’s like a brother to him. Kalisz, who will be keeping the 400 IM in the NBAC family, punched his ticket to Rio by finishing first. Jay Litherland, who Phelps said is “like a shark in the water,” took second to also make his Olympic debut.
Phelps spoke about Ryan Lochte, who finished third, saying that he is tough and will use that race as motivation. He also hints that he has an idea of what it’ll take to win the gold medal in Rio, but that’s something he’s keeping to himself.
