After cruising to the top seed this morning during prelims, Katie Ledecky has officially punched her ticket to Rio in the women’s 400 free. This is her second Olympic Games after she stunned the world by winning the 800 free in London as a 15-year-old.
She took it out incredibly fast, starting over two seconds ahead of world record pace at the halfway mark. Although she ultimately didn’t break the world record, her swift 3:58.98 currently leads the world rankings.
Ledecky, the heavy favorite in Rio, has gone 15-for-15 in major international competition wins since her gold medal performance in 2012. She is the current world record holder in the 400, 800, and 1500.
