Jay Litherland finished second in the men’s 400 IM to punch his ticket to Rio. Finishing with the fastest freestyle split of the field, the rising University of Georgia junior touched the wall in 4:11.02.
Seeded third coming into the meet, he dropped over a second from his lifetime best to claim his Olympic berth. He will join teammate Chase Kalisz as the first two qualifiers of the meet.
Litherland, who was left speechless, talked to Swimming World about the special moment shared with his teammates and brothers after his race.
