Dana Vollmer did not swim her best time of the meet in tonight’s 100 fly final, and she did not even win. But at Olympic Trials, finishing second is just as good as finishing first, and Vollmer could not complain after booking her ticket to Rio with a second-place finish Monday night.
After the race, Vollmer spoke to Swimming World about her mixed emotions on the swim and why she felt like she could not approach peak form. She also discussed what it meant to her to be a three-time Olympian, especially after taking almost two years of “maternity leave” from the sport.
