The No. 5 Stanford men and the No. 2 Stanford women hosted the No. 15 Arizona men and No. 11 Arizona women on Saturday January 23 and rattled the Wildcats as they handily took both meets. The underclassmen women were instrumental in the victory, while the upperclassmen men proved to be lethal.
The meet began with a closely contested 200 medley relay. The Stanford team of Ryan Dudzinski, Christian Brown, Andrew Liang, and Sam Perry took the event with a time of 1:28.85, while the Arizona team of Chatham Dobbs, Andrew Sovero, Chad Indensohn, and Renny Richmond touched close behind with a final time of 1:29.39. The Arizona freshman Ty Fowler took the 1650 free with a winning time of 15:23.24, just beating Stanford sophomore Liam Egan at the finish. Egan was a 15:23.84.
A pair of Stanford seniors then went 1-2 in the 200 free–Sean Duggan claimed the win with a time of 1:38.69 and classmate Jeff Garnier was second with a 1:39.21. The Stanford men then swept the 100 back, led by the freshman Dudzinski (48.82) and rounded off with the senior Ryan Arata (49.52) and sophomore Patrick Conaton (49.66). Conaton just edged out the Arizona freshman Dobbs, who claimed fourth with a 49.68. Freshman Matt Anderson was the next winner for Stanford when he claimed the 100 breast (55.84). He was followed by senior teammate Brown (56.06).
