Olivia Smoliga just missed qualifying for a trip to London four years ago with a fourth-place finish at Trials in the women’s 100 back. Now 21, the Chicago native, who will be a senior this fall at the University of Georgia, emerged from the shadows of American backstroke legends Missy Franklin and Natalie Coughlin to win the event and qualify for her first U.S. Olympic team.
