This week’s performance of the week goes to the Iron Lady from Hungary, Katinka Hosszu, for her performance in the 400 IM at the Barcelona stop of the Mare Nostrum Tour. Competing in her usual marathon of events, she started the meet with a dominating win and meet record of 4:30.75. That time is just off her top ranked time of the year, and is faster than anyone else in the world other than herself this year. Â
We all know Hosszu has has been dominant in the last year, breaking the world record in the 200 IM and winning multiple gold medals at world championships last summer. She has always been known to compete across freestyle, backstroke, and even butterfly, but what she has been doing in 2016 shows every indication that she intends to be untouchable in both IM events. While she already has the 200 IM world record and sits several seconds ahead of anyone else in the event this year, Hosszu has been working to separate herself in the longer IM. Between her recent string of strong performances in the 400 freestyle and her consistent low 4:30 400 IM’s this year, all signs point to her being the one to beat at the 2016 Rio Games.
Congratulations Katinka Hosszu on earning Swimming World’s Performance of the Week!
