South African record holder Karin Prinsloo announced today that she will be retiring from the sport of swimming. Prinsloo made the announcement via her Instagram account after competing at the Barcelona stop of the 2016 Mare Nostrum Circuit where she finished tenth in the 200 back, the event in which she qualified for the 2012 Olympics. In addition to the 200 back Prinsloo finished ninth in the 100 free, nineteenth in the 100 back.
Prinsloo exits the swimming stage as the current National Record holder in the 100, 200, and 400 freestyles, as well as the 100 back LCM. Both her 100 and 400 free records extend to the entire African continent. Additionally, she was a member of the South African National record-setting 400-meter free relay and 800-yard free relay.
