On Senior Day in Berkeley, California, the No. 2/No. 7 Golden Bear men and women grabbed convincing victories over the unranked Arizona State Sun Devils. After defeating Arizona at home just the day before, California kept the momentum going as the No. 2 men defeated Arizona State 183-107, while the No. 7 women took the meet with a final score of 181-98.
The Golden Bears started off in convincing fashion as they took the top two spots in the 200 medley relay. The A team of Ryan Murphy, Connor Hoppe, Josh Prenot, and Justin Lynch claimed first (1:26.98) and the B team of Jacob Pebley, Carson Sand, Long Gutierrez, and Tyler Messerschmidt followed with a time of 1:28.87. Arizona State’s A team of Richard Bohus, Christian Lorenz, Tadas Duskinas, and Patrick Park were third (1:28.94). A pair of Golden Bears then took the top two spots in the 1000 free. Junior Janardan Burns nabbed first (9:21.88), while freshman Ken Takahashi was second (9:25.75). Arizona State’s senior Juan Tolosa finished third (9:29.40).
A California sweep–led by senior Trent Williams (1:37.01)–in the 200 free followed. Second was claimed by the junior Murphy (1:37.03), while the senior Pebley took third with a 1:37.24.
