Day two of the 2016 Colorado Girls 4A and 5A High School State Championships took place today with Valor Christian winning the 4A title with an accumulated 320 points, while Fairview High School edged out the competition to take the 5A title with 288.5 points.
Valor Christian kicked off the meet with a new 4A state record in the 200 medley relay. The quad of Raili Carter, Brook Landt, Madison Hoehn, and Brooke Stenstrom posted a combined 1:45.31 to overturn the former record of 1:45.86 set by Manitou Springs in 2015.
St. Mary’s Alex Reddington grabbed first in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.52, shaving 2.5 seconds off her prelims time of 1:54.02. Laine Jones of Pueblo South finished second overall with a 1:52.03, while third went to Samantha Steigerwald of Air Academy and her time of 1:52.59.
