Michael Phelps qualified for his third individual event in Rio by winning the men’s 100 fly. Phelps, who was fourth at the 50, stopped the clock at 51.00.
His time ranks him second in the world this year. This is his third consecutive Trials win in this event as he will try to defend his Olympic title for the fourth time.
The 22-time Olympic medalist finished two tenths ahead of runner-up Tom Shields. The two will represent Team USA in both butterfly events in Rio.
