Katie Ledecky punched her ticket to Rio in the women’s 400 free, winning the event in 3:58.98. She challenged the world record, taking it out two seconds under world record pace at the 200 meter mark.
Ledecky said she is excited to train and race with Leah Smith, who touched second in 4:00.65 to qualify for her first Olympic team. Ledecky and Smith posted the top two times in the world this year.
This is her second Olympic Games after she shocked the world by winning the 800 free in London at 15 years old. She is also scheduled to swim the 50, 100, 200, and 800 freestyles this week in Omaha.
