Patricia Castro-Ortega of Queens University of Charlotte is a new national record holder for Division II swimming. The sophomore set a record in the women’s 400-yard individual medley on Saturday evening.
Queens University of Charlotte was competing at the two day Wingate Fall Frenzy. Castro-Ortega posted a 4:12.28, winning by over six seconds.
Castro-Ortega also helped set a new pool record in the 200-yard medley relay. The team consisted of backstroker Hannah Peiffer, breaststroker Shelly Prayson, butterflier Castro-Ortega and freestyler Kyrie Dobson.Â
Going into the final day of the Wingate Fall Frenzy, Queens University of Charlotte is in first place on the men’s side with 1,358.5 points. Wingate University is in second place with 1,212 points, Gardner-Webb University is in third with 1,096.5 points and Catawba College is in fourth place with 476 points.
