The heat sheets have come out for day one prelims at the Olympic Games in Rio. Events on the docket to be contested during prelims—beginning at 1 p.m. local time—include the men’s 400 IM, women’s 100 fly, men’s 400 free, women’s 400 IM, men’s 100 breast and women’s 400 free relay.
The men’s 400 IM will have a new champion after Americans Tom Dolan (1996 & 2000), Michael Phelps (2004 & 2008) and Ryan Lochte (2012) combined to win the last five Olympic golds. Japan’s Kosuke Hagino and Daiya Seto headline the field, with American Chase Kalisz and Hungary’s David Verraszto giving chase. Click here to view the men’s 400 IM heat sheets.
Sarah Sjostrom highlights the women’s 100 fly. Sjostrom was fourth in the event in London four years ago but has captured three of the last four world titles in the event and broke the world record last year. Also competing are defending gold medalist Dana Vollmer and World Championships runner-up Jeanette Ottesen. For the women’s 100 fly start lists, click here.
