Austin Swim Club head coach Brendan Hansen decided to shake off some cobwebs and put in some official times at the Austin Swim Club Masters Meet today.
Hansen, a three-time Olympic gold medalist as a member of the 400 medley relay in 2004, 2008 and 2012, raced his way to a 25.18 in the 50-yard breast at the ASC meet today.
For comparison’s sake, that would have ranked the 34-year-old second in United States Masters Swimming last year in the event among 30-34 year olds.  Matt Grevers, still currently competing at an Olympic level in the freestyle and backstroke events, had the top time last year with a 24.35.
Hansen was the top swimmer today with 6-10 Austin Westlake High sophomore Matthew Willenbring, who just won the Texas 6A State High School Championship in the 100-yard breast with a 56.20, posting an unofficial 26.1 to finish second among the 50 breast swimmers.
