The Big Ten Swimmers of the Week were announced today and swimmers and divers from Minnesota, Michigan and Purdue claimed all six slots.
The male swimmer of the week honor went to Chris Klein of Michigan. The Junior won the 200 IM at the Orange Bowl Classic and had a slew of second place touches in the meet. His times in the 200 IM and 100 breast converted to NCAA B Cuts. This is Klein’s first swimmer of the week honor. The last Michigan male swimmer to win the honor was Dylan Bosch earlier in the year in November.
Michigan sophomore Emily Kopas won the women’s swimmer of the week along with Purdue senior Allie Davis. Kopas won all three breaststroke events at the Orange Bowl Classic as well as setting a meet record in the 50 breast. This is the first swimmer of the week honor for Kopas. The last Michigan swimmer to win the honor was Ali DeLoof earlier this season.
Davis won three events at the FIU Sprint Invitational and got a B cut in the 200 free. She also set pool records in the 200 and 500 free at FIU. This is the second time Davis has won this award this season.
