Fast swims in the 100 breaststroke highlighted prelims of day two at the 2016 NCSA Junior Nationals with Reece Whitley, Michael Andrew, and Margaret Aroesty throwing down fast times.
Aroesty held onto her number one psych sheet ranking in prelims, finishing almost two seconds ahead of the competition. The sixteen-year-old bypassed 59-seconds to stop the clock at a sizzling 58.98, dropping 1.02 seconds off her entry time of 1:00.00. York’s Jacqueline Clabeaux grabbed second overall with a time of 1:00.86, trimming .65 seconds of her entry time of 1:01.51, while Ingrid Wall of New Trier was third with a 1:01.45.
Andrew and Whitley went head to head in the 100 breaststroke to return as tonight’s top seeds. Andrew split a 24.48 and a 27.77 to finish with a time of 52.25 as the top seed for tonight’s final, while Whitley posted splits of 25.26 and 27.54 for a final 52.80. Neither swim was a personal best for Andrew or Whitley, but Andrew’s 51.75 NAG record sits only a half second away from Andrew’s prelim time.
