Mack Horton set a new Australian All Comers record in tonight’s 1500 freestyle at the 2016 Australian Championships. The 19 year old turned in a 14:39.54.
That swim is only five seconds slower than the legendary Grant Hackett‘s 14:24.56 Commonwealth record. It also moved Horton to first in the world this year, just ahead of Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri in 14:40.61.
Jack McLoughlin had a massive 33 second drop to earn an Olympic berth. The 21 year old raced to a 14:48.60, which moves him to third in the world this year. McLoughlin was previously outside the top 20.
