Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu was out under world-record pace at the 300 before fading badly to settle for a meet record in the women’s 400-meter IM at the 2016 European Championships.
Hosszu split a 3:28.84 at the 300-meter mark, under Ye Shiwen’s 3:29.75 from 2012. Â But, Hosszu did not have the same freestyle speed as she faded with a 4:30.90 for the win.
That’s a full second off her world-best time of 4:29.89, but still a smidge better than her meet record of 4:30.97 from prelims.
