In 8:18.14 Jessica Ashwood won the 800 freestyle at tonight’s 2016 Arena Pro Swim Santa Clara. That time was new best for her, in addition to decimating the meet record. She even broke the Australian record in the race, which she negative split.
Hayley Peirsol held the old record at 8:26.87 from 2006. Tonight’s swim also slightly lowers Ashwood’s second place world ranking. Only Katie Ledecky has been faster (8:06.68) this year.
Miranda Heckman (8:50.14) was second and Katy Campbell placed third (8:53.92).
