By Sarah Lloyd, Swimming World College Intern

After a tough loss to the Illini of Illinois yesterday, the Iowa State Cyclones came back in dramatic fashion to take all but one of the 16 events against DIII Washington-St. Louis. Eight of those 15 victories were also part of event sweeps, which catapulted the Cyclones to a 195-97 result.

Iowa State made a statement in the very first event, taking the top two spots in the 400 medley relay. A team of Marissa Engel, Kasey Roberts, Kalee Kucera, and Alex Flatness took first (3:56.54) and were closely followed by teammates Guy Shilon, Danica Delaquis, Savanna Townsend, and Ashton Ehrecke (3:57.08). Sophomore Mary Kate Luddy promptly followed with a win in the 1000 free (10:38.28).

The first sweep of the meet for the Cyclones came in the 200 free, when sophomore Silqi Luo, sophomore Roberts, and junior Brooke Evensen went 1-2-3, going 1:54.86, 1:56.34, and 1:57.04 respectively. Right after, the Cyclones, led by sophomore Harper Emswiler swept the 100 back. Emswiler (58.33) was followed by senior Kucera (58.52), and freshman Shilon (59.75). Delaquis, a sophomore, followed up with a win in the 100 breast (1:05.98).
