The 2016 Big Ten Women’s Championships field shook off a norovirus outbreak that forced the isolation of four competitors as coaches and administrators decided to power ahead as regularly scheduled.
Indiana jumped into a day one lead with 120 points, while Michigan held second with 116 points. Â Penn State (100), Ohio State (100) and Wisconsin (98) finished third through fifth. Defending champion Minnesota held sixth with 90 points.
Indiana kicked off the meet on the right foot with a school-record time in the women’s 200-yard medley relay. Â Marie Chamberlain (24.39), Lilly King (25.92), Gia Dalesandro (23.25) and Grace Vertigans (22.17) powered their way to a 1:35.73. Â That swim cleared the pool and meet record of 1:36.29 set by Wisconsin back in 2009, and just missed Wisconsin’s overall conference record of 1:35.71 from 2011.
