The 2016 Hawaii Girls and Boys State Championships kick off Friday, February 12th at the Na`eole Aquatic Facility, Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii. Prelims for diving will be at 10 a.m. with swimming following in the afternoon. Diving will jumpstart Saturday with semis and finals in the morning, followed by a 1 p.m. start time for finals of the swimming portion.
Punahou’s Aukai Lileikis returns as the top seed to defend his championship title and record in the boy’s 200 Free. The senior is seeded more than seven seconds ahead of the competition and less than two seconds off his record of 1:35.62 with a 1:37.19. After taking down Mark Eckert’s 2002 record in the 500 Free last year, Lileikis appears to be switching gears, focusing on the 100 Free and a possible new state record. Lileikis sits at first going into prelims with a 44.41, a time that is .29 seconds under Kanoa Kaleoaloha’s record of 44.70.
Nohea Lileikis of Punahou is sure to turn heads this weekend as the top seed in both the girls 200 and 500 Free. Lileikis’ 4:59.79 seed time in the 500 Free sits a slim 3.5 seconds off Rebecca Walton’s record of 4:56.29.
