The German Swimming Federation has announced a roster of only 15 swimmers for the 2016 European Championships. The nation just concluded its national championships on Sunday, the first of two steps towards Olympic qualification.
The roster for next week’s swimming portion of the Championships in London was based on last week’s results in Berlin. An Olympic focus was cited as the reason for the small roster, according to the coaching staff.
For the women, the team is led by Franziska Hentke, who posted the world’s second fastest 200 butterfly last week. Maxine Wolters finished second in last week’s 200 IM, only behind the new national record holder. Jessica Steiger also earned runner up honors last week in the 100 breaststroke. These three swimmers are joined by Lisa Höpink, Antonia Massone, and Julia Mrozinski.Â
