The proposed Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center, which would replace the International Swimming Hall of Fame facility in Florida, has now had its price tag raised by $3.2 million according to the Sun Sentinel.
The company hired to build the new aquatic center, Recreational Design and Construction, has now asked for $39 million to complete the job. Â That is $3.2 million more than agreed to in April and $6.6 million more than the original 2012 contract.
City Commissioners now have several options: “Bite the bullet on the increased cost; seek new bids; demand the developer stick to the original budget; find ways to bring the price down; fix up the current complex; or find another use for the site.”
The city has already paid $3 million just for designs and other consultant work on the project thus far.
