Florian Vogel was the leader after the morning and won the 400 freestyle tonight at the 2016 German Nationals. The meet is serving as the first step in Olympic Trials qualifying for the nation.
Vogel led the morning in 3:46.31, the seventh best time in the world this year. Clemens Rapp posted a 3:49.29 this morning, as both were faster than the 3:50.04 necessary prelims time for Olympic qualification.
Tonight, Vogel led Rapp by a second at the halfway mark, and grew his lead to two and a half seconds at the 300 mark.
Vogel finished the event in a 3:44.89, the fifth best time in the world this year, and well under the 3:47.49 necessary in finals for German Olympic qualification.
