Federica Pellegrini, who first competed in the Olympics at the 2004 Olympic Games as a 16 year old, is headed to her fourth Olympic Games after posting a 53.78 in the women’s 100-meter free at the 2016 Italian Nationals.
Pellegrini, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist in the 200 free, cleared the FINA A cut of 54.43 to secure a spot on the Rio roster.
Erika Ferraioli claimed second with a time of 54.87, just missing the A cut, while Aglaia Pezzato took third in 55.03.
