Some of the best Division II teams came together for their first competition of the year on Friday, competing at the University of Missouri in the Show Me Showdown. Lindenwood, Drury, Truman State, the Missouri University of Science and Technology, William Jewell, and the University of Missouri – Saint Louis came to compete against host Mizzou and a handful of other Division I and Division III programs.
Lindenwood came away as the top scoring Division II team of the meet, with their women placing second overall (413 pts) and men placing third overall (339.50). The meet was also the first chance for many of the Great Lakes Valley School (GLVS) conference teams to compete. Missouri School of Science & Technology finishing highest (5th) among the men’s teams in the conference, while the Truman State women finished highest (6th) against the other GLVS teams at the meet.
Lindenwood’s Sergei Golban, who was the 2016 NCAA champion in the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 back, came away with an individual win in the 50 freestyle (20.75), besting the rest of the field by more than a quarter of a second. Golban also posted a second place finish in the 100 back (49.89), less than two-tenths behind the winner Daniel Hein from Mizzou, and contributed to Lindenwood’s sixth place 200 medley relay (1:33.63) and fourth place 200 free relay (1:25.17).
