The 2016 Illinois Boys High School State Championships kicked off yesterday with quick swims in prelims.
Daniel Hein of DeKalb delivered a scorching 47.97 in prelims of the 100 back to grab not only the top seed but also a new state record. Hein’s time overturned the previous record of 48.07 set just last year by Max St. George.
Hein also turned in the top time in the 100 fly posting a swift 47.92. Hinsdale Central’s Franco Reyes grabbed second with a time of 48.60, while Metea Valley’s Alex Dillman finished third with a 49.81.
