On the first day of the 2016 Settecolli Trophy, a number of international swimmers put together some solid swims. Two meet records fell on the first day in Rome.
Coralie Balmy of France jumped to fourth in the world rankings in the 400 freestyle. She touched in 2:03.66. Hungary’s Boglarka Kapas finished second in 4:05.65, a bit off her own third ranked 4:03.47. Third went to Italian Diletta Carli in 4:07.32.
Canada’s Kylie Massee clocked a 27.82 to win the 50 backstroke. In prelims she touched in 27.67. That time was new meet record and Canadian record. Katarina Listopadova was second in 28.23. Her swim was faster than her own Slovakian record. Third went to Elena Gemo in 28.40.
Italian men swept the podium in the men’s 400 freestyle. Gabriele Detti swam away with the title, finishing in a meet record time of 3:44.21. Gregorio Paltrinieri was second in 3:50.47 and third went to Matteo Ciampi in 3:51.50.
