SwimMAC Carolina’s Caroline Hauder announced her verbal commitment to the UNC Tarheels on Twitter Tuesday night.
The current junior has chosen to stay in state, where she has the potential to make an impact like the one she has made on the high school scene. At this year’s NCHSAA 3A state championships, Hauder led the Marvin Ridge team to a state title. She was a part of two winning relays, and won the 200 IM in a lifetime best of 1:58.85, in addition to claiming the 100 breaststroke crown (1:02.15).
Both her 100 breaststroke and her 200 IM best times already rank inside Carolina’s all time top 10. At this year’s ACC Championships, Hauder would have finished seventh in the 200 IM, an event in which the Tarheels did not have any swimmers under two minutes at the conference championships. Her best 100 breaststroke of 1:01.13 would have also snuck in valuable A final points.
By the time she arrives on campus in the fall of 2017, the current top three 100 breaststrokers will have graduated, leaving the door open for Hauder to make an impact on medley relays as well.
