Cameron McEvoy and Cate Campbell picked up top times in the men’s and women’s 50-meter frees at the 2016 Japan Open prelims.
Cameron McEvoy, ranked second in the world in the men’s 50-meter free with a 21.44, paced prelims in 21.80. Â James Magnussen clocked in second in 22.44 with Japan’s Junya Koga taking third in 22.65.
Cate Campbell, the top-ranked swimmer in the women’s 50-meter free with a 23.84 from Australian Nationals, led the way in the prelims of that event with a 24.65. Â Teammates Shayna Jack (25.43) and Bronte Campbell (25.46) placed second and third. Â Miki Uchida was the fastest from Japan in 25.68.
