At the 5th Singapore National Short Course Championships held over the holidays, BISP JSA Swim Academy member and Year 13 student Chantal Liew was in promising form in her hometown, breaking the Academy 50m Back Record on Day 1 by swimming 29.22, placing 2nd, whilst also racing the 800m Free, also placing second in a new PB of 9:01.07.
Chantal then swam two fantastic races on the final day of competition, winning two silvers in the process and breaking two more Academy records. First up, she blasted a 1min 02.55 in the 100m Backstroke to break the old record by almost 0.5 of a second, and then followed this up with a 5 second drop in the 400m Freestyle posting a 4min 23.32.
Liew said, “Racing short course is always a great way to end of the year. Coming into this meet I didn’t really have that much pressure but I definitely surprised myself by going sub 29.5 and sub 1.03 in the 50 and 100 back. Its definitely a good indicator of what I could and should be going long course.
“While my 800 free did fall slightly below expectation, it also shows me what I need to work on back at training. Overall I was quite pleased with my results and I’m now very excited to see what I can do this March!â€
