In the first day of the 2016 IPC Swimming European Championships, three world records, two European records, and one Asian record were set.
Valerila Shabalina took down the S14 200 freestyle world record with a 2:03.54, faster than Bethany Firth went last week in Glasgow. Jessica-Jane Applegate posted a 2:06.29 for second, well ahead of third place finisher Michelle Alonso Morales in 2:16.87.
Muslima Odilova of Uzbekistan set the S13 women’s 100 butterfly world record with a 1:04.98. Darya Stukalova won the event in the S12 classification, posting a 1:04.92. Joanna Mendak and Alessia Berra earned silver and bronze in 1:06.44 and 1:07.81.
