3 World Records Fall on Day 1 of British Para International

Day one of the British Para-Swimming International meet started off with a bang as three world records fell.

Michelle Alonso Morales of Spain took down the SB14 standard in the women’s 100 breaststroke, with a 1:13.86 in the morning. At night, she won the event in 1:12.61 to lower the record. Bethany Firth finished second in the event in 1:13.29, setting a new British record. Rebecca Redfern went a 1:16.86 for third place and the SB13 world record.

In the men’s 100 breaststroke, Aaron Moores broke the SB14 world record in prelims with a 1:06.49. At tonight he improved that time, posting a 1:06.33 to win the event. Scott Quin finished second in 1:06.97 and Wa Kit Choi placed third in 1:09.53.

In the women’s 100 freestyle, Hannah Russell, competing in the S12 class, was first to the wall in 59.40 seconds. Elanor Simmonds finished in 1:15.11 for second and Stephanie Millward rounded out the top three in a 1:05.01.
