In the fourth morning of action in Rio, youth led the way in the opening event. Kyle Chalmers of Australia touched .01 ahead of American Caeleb Dressel in 100 freestyle prelims. Chalmer’s teammate Cameron McEvoy earned the fourth seed. Defending Olympic gold medalist Nathan Adrian finished sixteenth.
Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Spain posted the fastest 200 butterfly of the morning. Only .03 behind her American teammates Cammile Adams and Hali Flickinger tied for the second spot.
Anton Chupkov of Russia put together a quick prelims 200 breaststroke, finishing six tenths ahead of the next best swimmer, Yashuri Koseki of Japan. Heading to semifinals in the third spot is Great Britain’s Andrew Willis.
