2016 Big 12 Championship Preview

By Sarah Lloyd, Swimming World College Intern

The Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship kicks off on Wednesday February 24 at the University of Texas’ Jamail Texas Swimming Center. The Longhorn men look to go for a record 20th consecutive conference win, while the Longhorn women seek their 14th.

The women’s meet will be contested between five schools-Texas, Iowa State, West Virginia, Kansas, and TCU. Leading the Texas women is freshman Joanna Evans, who boast three top-three seeds going into the meet. She goes into the meet seeded second in the 500 free (4:43.07), third in the 200 free (1:47.30), and first in the 1650 (9:14.77 for 1000 free). The Longhorns are also return 16 women from their 2015 championship squad, making it a very experienced group of women. Juniors Tasija Karosas and Madisyn Cox, who each sit with three career individual titles, look to add to their collection.
